Besides being known for the Horseshoe Curve, (PA Railroad), Altoona, PA also has a pretty significant racing history .  .  .

Racing on that surface at those speeds would have been quite the thrill.  I don't know which would have been more intense  -  controlling a primitive race car at break-neck speeds without the benefit of any safety equipment, or trying to avoid being impaled by giant splinters that would break away from the racing surface.

This is a great vid put together by an old friend, (Kirk Leidy took the photos at my first wedding in 1990) .  .  .
