This sounds great through a good set of headphones .  .  .

Gotta love a 2-step on a twin turbo big block.

The noise from this car is amazing !  And, from the looks of it, the straps holding it to the dyno are pretty strong .  .  .

Not really related to the thread, but I thought Todd would like this commercial.  Grin

That's great !  I saw it for the first time earlier this week.

We interrupt this broadcast to bring you this Special Report .  .  .

The car in that commercial is a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, one of only 400 produced for the model year.  It exists because after the $10,000 Continental Mark II, Cadillac found itself down a notch from the top of the automotive food chain, and wanted to regain the luxury supremacy title.  And, it pulled out all the stops in order to do so.

In a world where a Rolls Royce cost $12,000 in 1957, this Caddy stickered for a whopping $13,000.  Like the Continental Mark II that preceded it, these cars were hand-built.  However, unlike the understated elegance of the Mark II, Cadillac chose the over-the-top route.  The Brougham had air suspension. A power trunk lid that raised and lowered with the touch of a button.  The two-position memory front seat would move backward and downward to allow for easy entry/exit.  It had auto door locks that activated when the car was put in gear.  But, in true over-the-top fashion, part of the Brougham package was a set of refreshment tumblers, a cigarette case, compact, a beveled mirror, a tissue dispenser, notepad and pen, and a bottle of perfume.  Today, these items are extremely sought after, and can cost thousands.

The "suicide door" platform was constructed on top of the shorter two-door hardtop body.  So, while there is less room in the back seat than a sedan, access to those seats is much better.  Despite the lack of a b-pillar, engineers did a good job of stiffening the chassis.  Under the hood was a 365 CID V-8 with two 4-bbl carbs that made 325 hp.

So, a fully restored Brougham, like the one in the commercial, can cost well into the 6 figures today.  Using one for that type of stunt driving would be somewhat unusual.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program .  .  .

That would be a strange sound to hear on the city streets.  That is, unless you're being invaded .  .  .
